history

"I'm representative of Irish design.
Wherever I go in the world, I'm promoting Irishness".

Philip Treacy, Fashion Designer.

With the local, the unique, the bespoke...

...never more popular, we at Tailteann continue to take great inspiration from the proud traditions and culture that make Ireland so remarkably charismatic.

studying the distinctive ways our forefathers had of doing and making things has...

...undoubtedly helped us to create contemporary products that speak to today's Irish man and woman.

From the ancient Druids (who influenced our brand logo design), to early Christian creations (such as The Book of Kells); from The Celtic Revival, to The Irish Arts and Crafts Movement; we have always sought to enhance our understanding of original Irish craftsmanship.

Borrowing from such cultural resources, we believe, enables our work to emit a distinctive Irish spirit, which combines both the practical and the functional with the aesthetic.

being an island on europe's edge,...

...foreign influences have always helped to shape Ireland’s history and culture, and by extension its design practices. From the avant-garde Dutch graphic design styles of the 1950’s (the above picture has hung in our parent's house for countless years) to the progressive Polish programming processes of the present-day, we have always admired the significant contribution these taste-makers have made, and continue to make to this country, we taking much from such.

perhaps unsurprisingly, we also repeatedly look to...

...the numerous world-class Irish designers of today for further inspiration and guidance.

from the likes of..

...Fashion Designer Louise Kennedy, we gained a greater appreciation of how to balance exquisite detail with understated style.

from the likes of...

...Tipperary Crystal, we realised that an unwavering commitment to quality will always be the best business plan.

from the likes of...

...Belleek Pottery, we further grasped how to successfully fuse the traditional with the modern.

from the likes of...

...Furniture Designer, Joseph Walsh, we learned to not only continuously challenge technical boundaries, but to blur the lines between art and craft when it’s called for.

WE COULD GO ON AND ON BUT FOR THE SAKE OF BREVITY...

we shall instead make one collective hat-tip to the countless other Irish designers who provide beauty and national character to their respective industries. The standard you set, we continuously aspire to match.
