Q&A

"I tell of things that I have seen. I show the man that I have been."

Thomas MacDonagh, Famed Local.

Q. RATHER THAN CHANGE THE WORLD YOURSELVES LIKE MANY TECH COMPANIES ASPIRE TO, YOUR AIM IS TO HELP CHANGE THE WORLDS OF THOSE WHO CHANGE THE WORLD?

A. PADRAIG: "Yes, that's correct! Perhaps one of the best exemplars of our position is Warren Gatland and his backroom team, who dreamed of accomplishing something remarkable in the world of sport. That was to transform a struggling Welsh Rugby Union team (ranked a pretty lowly 9th in the world at the time) into 6 Nations' Grand Slam Champions."

Q. Have YOU always been AS open AS YOU SEEM TO BE NOW?

A. PADRAIG: "That's a definite no! In the aftermath of Bainisteoir - Hurling's launch, we received an awful lot of media attention. And while it was very welcome from a sales perspective, we must admit we found it distracting to the point of being disruptive. As I suppose we'd all be pretty self-effacing types anyway, we made a collective decision around that time to retreat to the shadows from where we came, and simply focus all of our energy upon product development. From a creative point of view, moving off-stage proved a really good move. In truth, it's probably where we'd be most comfortable remaining.

However..."

Q. Who do tailteann most like to work with?

A. PADRAIG: "As alluded to in the previous posts, we love to partner with people and organisations who possess the ability to "give the world something it didn't know it was missing", as author, Daniel Pink once said. The most interesting people in our company's story have always been external, not internal - there's little doubt about that.

We also hold a belief that there should be a cultural fit between our clients/partners and ourselves too; that our respective values, outlooks and behaviours are congruent with each other. Indeed, we often feel we do our best work when..."

Q. RURAL Tipperary seems an unusual place TO LOCATE A TECH FIRM?

A. PADRAIG: "We naturally understand why some may think that's the case. We have privately jested about converting the closed local pub, the 5-Alley into a tech incubator called Silicon V-Alley, so perhaps that perception will change at some future point!

All joking asides.."

Q. REGARDING TAILTEANN'S "5 SENSES" DESIGN PHILOSOpHY; IF YOU WERE to analogise your company/products, WHAT WOULD it/they LOOK, FEEL, SOUND, SMELL, AND TASTE LIKE?!

A. PADRAIG: "Regarding the look and feel of our software products, we'd like to think they are something akin to "a velvet glove upon an iron fist" - always striving to be aesthetic, smooth and sophisticated whilst simultaneously being effective, efficient and robust.

I think this kind of design philosophy is perhaps a Tipperary thing. For instance, take..."

Q. your Biggest business Influence has been?

A. PADRAIG: "Similar to our design philosophy, our business outlook has been shaped by so many different factors that it's kinda hard to pinpoint what our biggest influence is. So in some sort of chronological order, I'll highlight a few that immediately spring to mind!

Beginning at the beginning, our..."

Q. SPORT HAS BEEN A PARTICULARLY BIG INFLUENCE SO?

A. PADRAIG: "In both a practical and theoretical sense, it really has. I suppose we all have certain ideas and viewpoints surrounding how everything in life fits together. For us, sport, arguably more so than anything else, has helped to guide us through the business world, playing a very significant role in defining our attitudes towards it, and our behaviour and performance within it.

Indeed..."

Q. Is Tailteann as much of a values-based organisation as it seems?

A. PADRAIG: "We'd like to believe it is, ya. To bring these values (which are expressed across this site) to life, we spend a lot of time converting them to "Actions". For example, take our core value, Creativity..."
