"Take pride in where you're from. It is no coincidence that the colours of RyanAir and Tipperary are the same."

Tony Ryan, Founder of RyanAir

There has never been a council playground in carrigatoher.

Not that there ever really was a need for one, as the native children have always been more than happy to design their own.

...proud and noble Oak tree, which in their childhood played host to all manner of games. It took little imagination to hurdle from one sturdy branch to another as if upon monkey bars, and even less again to perform (well, attempt!) chin-ups and pull-ups. Elbow grease asides, some lumber from the nearby garage was all that was required to incorporate swings and trapeze rings. The tree itself provided the lumber for ancillary playground features such as stepping posts, see-saws and balance beams, which all nestled in and around its thick base.

...the hosting of a tree-house, which was constructed with leftover fertiliser pallets, and a lot of love. The tree-house, which facilitated so much unstructured play, became an ideas hub for the boys, helping to not only develop a sense of wonder but to feed the insatiable curiosity that all children have.

to fergal and padraig, the tree didn't need to become any more special.

But when the pair discovered the Oak's unique place in Celtic mythology one day in primary school, it couldn't but. Considered sacred by the Celts (and in particular the Druids who translated the language of trees into profound and meaningful messages); the brothers learned that the Oak Tree represented wisdom and destiny, strength and endurance, mastery and leadership.

Fergal and Padraig would also later learn of the "Wood Wide Web" - a miracle of nature where Oaks help out their neighbours by sharing nutrients and information via their root system; a process the McDonnell brothers found really inspiring.

...the daily sight of this mere acorn, which evolved into this majestic tree, provided them with the hope that they too could perhaps one day fulfill their potential. As Tailteann slowly but surely grew, the time came to move into a dedicated two storey office. Where was it located? Next to the Oak Tree.

for these varied reasons, tailteann chose a...

...modern take on the Dara Celtic Knot ("Dara" being a derivative of the Irish word for "Oak Tree", with the "Knot" being a representation of its' root system), as the company's logo. Encapsulating our influences and designs, as well as signifying our individual and collective heritage, we believe the logo helps us to achieve the objectives of the original Tailteann Games whilst simultaneously reminding us of the continuous need to both evolve and serve others.
